A man, a cat and a dog were bitten by a fox in Fairfax County on Thursday night, police said.
The man was bitten about 9 p.m. in the 2300 block of William and Mary Drive, in the Alexandria section of the county, police said.
The fox then attacked a cat. Police said they thought the cat was injured but survived.
A fox attack was reported in an adjacent block, the 2200 block of William and Mary. There, another man said a fox had fought with a dog and had attacked him, too. The man kicked at the fox, which took one of the man’s shoes and fled without biting him, police said.
Searches were fruitless. Authorities said the fox’s actions were consistent with rabies. The dog was quarantined.
